The Collection Center Netherlands (CC NL) in Amersfoort has been nominated for the BREEAM Awards 2019, an international prize for sustainable buildings. The collection center under construction of Paleis Het Loo, the Dutch Open Air Museum, the Rijksmuseum and the Cultural Heritage Agency of the Netherlands is competing in the Public Sector (design) category, competing against five projects from the United Kingdom and one project from Norway. The winner will be announced in London on March 4, 2019.
The design for the CC NL received a BREEAM Outstanding certificate in October 2018 with a score of more than 90%. That is the highest sustainability label for new construction and renovation projects. From the end of 2020, the CC NL will house 675.000 objects from the four heritage institutions that are not on permanent display in museums. In addition to being a place for optimal management and preservation of these national collections, it will become a study center for researchers and students. Colleague museums are welcome to borrow.
