BREEAM Congress 2019 in Atlas building, Eindhoven University of Technology, with certificate for the most sustainable education building in the world, presented by Annemarie van Doorn (DGBC) to Nicole Ummelen (CvB TU/e)
The renovated Atlas building (formerly Hoofdgebouw) of the Eindhoven University of Technology officially opened its doors on March 21. The integral, multidisciplinary design team Team RSVP was responsible for the exceptionally sustainable renovation design. Team RSVP was composed of Team V (architect), Valstar Simonis (installation advice) Van Rossum (constructor) and Peutz (building physics and sustainability). Team RSVP's sustainability experts worked closely with TU/e researchers during the design, so that the Main Building was set up as a living lab (by the Intelligent Lighting Institute) for research into innovative and sustainable techniques.
Atlas is home to the Faculty of Industrial Design, the Faculty of Industrial Engineering & Innovation Sciences, the University Board and the support services. The original building, designed by architect Van Emden, dates from 1963, has sixteen floors and a floor area of 44.000 square meters.
