On Tuesday 16 May, the doors of the new Het Loo Palace swung open for relations of DGMR, WSP and Valstar Simonis. Shortly after the official opening, they were able to become acquainted exclusively with the hidden sides of the Palace. Over the past five years, the Palace has been renovated and expanded with an underground extension of over 5.000m2. A challenging project that the engineering team has been working on for years heeft worked and what can now be proudly displayed.
In the stables, Theo de Boer (Valstar Simonis), Peter Bijvoet (DGMR), Eddy van Caulil (WSP) and Christiaan de Vos (Valstar Simonis) presented some of the technical challenges and solutions involved in a monumental building with a museum-like character. How do you find the balance between modern solutions and the legal and monumental requirements? Much of the technology has now been beautifully concealed behind walls and ceilings, but if you looked closely, there was still something to discover. In addition, all relations received a booklet in which the technical solutions were described in more detail.
After the presentations it was time to discover these hidden sides in the Palace for yourself. The afternoon was concluded with a festive drink in the Prins Hendrik garage where, while enjoying a snack and a drink, there was every opportunity to talk to each other and discuss the project.
A project such as Paleis het Loo requires an integrated approach. Within the engineering team, each company contributed its own experience and expertise. In our project description read more about it. The underground extension is a design by KAAN architecten.
