What fascinates me as a designer of building-related installations is the great diversity of factors that influence the end result. Getting a grip on that in the design phase of a project and keeping a grip on it in the execution phase is an interesting challenge. Understanding what the client really wants is the key to good advice. A little willfulness is part of this, but it must be based on knowledge and experience. The fact that I worked for years as an (electrical) technician and project leader is proving very useful in my current position as a consultant. Even though I now have responsibility for large parts of a design, it is still fun and often necessary to be able to delve into the depths. My specialties in this regard are failsafe electricity supply, lighting and security.
